On the completion of four years of the BJP government in Assam, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke to the press on Saturday and discussed the progress of the state. He said that till a few years ago Assam was considered a hopeless state but today it has become an emerging state. He informed that the state’s gross domestic product i.e. GDP has now reached about Rs 7.5 lakh crore and soon it can cross the figure of Rs 10 lakh crore. A meeting of the state cabinet was also held on this occasion in which many big decisions were taken.
Peace and development got priority
Chief Minister Sarma said that in the last four years peace has returned to Assam and harmony has increased among different tribes and communities. He informed that rapid development work is going on in the state and positive changes are coming in the lives of the people. However, this time the government has decided not to celebrate any kind of ceremony on the fourth anniversary of its tenure. He said that due to the increasing tension between India and Pakistan, this is not the time for celebration as our soldiers are posted on the border and it is time to honor them.

New schemes for soldiers and civilians
The Chief Minister said that the government will now prepare a special list which will include the names of those who are blood donors of rare blood groups so that they can be contacted when needed. Along with this, all the hospitals and health services of the state will also be reviewed. A list of all the defense personnel associated with Assam will also be prepared so that the health and education needs of their families can be met in their absence. Sarma appealed to the people not to post any inflammatory or communal posts on social media which hurt the sentiments of the army personnel as these soldiers come from all religions and communities.
Important decisions and new schemes taken in the cabinet
It was also decided in the cabinet meeting that the government will ban unnecessary expenses. Now there will be no foreign trips on government expenses. Buying new vehicles has also been banned except for the police department. Apart from this, non-essential training of employees has also been postponed for the time being. The government has announced a one-time amount of ₹5000 to permanent and temporary employees working in all the tea gardens of the state on the occasion of completion of 200 years of the tea industry. Also, it has been considered to name the Dibrugarh airport after Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika. Under the Chief Minister Jeevan Prerna Yojana, students graduating from government colleges in 2024-25 will be given a help of ₹2500 per month for one year. Research scholars of universities will be given financial assistance of ₹20,000 and specially abled researchers will be given ₹40,000.
