32 Assam Rifles has been awarded the ‘Unit Citation‘ award for its outstanding contribution in maintaining peace and serving humanity in Dima Hasao district of Assam. This honor was given by Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya on 9 May (Friday) at the Raj Bhavan in Guwahati. This award has been given at a time when this battalion worked in very difficult circumstances and not only conducted a campaign against terrorism but also dedicated itself to the service of the general public.
Played an important role in Operation ‘Rimal Relief’
32 Assam Rifles played a major role in ‘Operation Rimal Relief’ conducted during Cyclone Rimal. The objective of this operation was to evacuate the people affected by the cyclone and provide them necessary assistance. The soldiers carried out relief operations in very difficult conditions and saved the lives of a large number of people. Not only this, but they emerged as the first team to reach in every difficult situation.
Provided immediate relief in coal mine accident and train accident
The unit also played the role of first response team in the Umrangso coal mine rescue operation. Apart from this, in the incident of derailment of Lokmanya Tilak Express in Dibalong, this battalion also helped the injured and evacuated people to safer places. In all these emergency situations, 32 Assam Rifles not only responded swiftly but also provided medical assistance and emergency relief, which earned them immense appreciation among the general public.
Playing a leadership role in community development too
Not limited to just emergency services, 32 Assam Rifles is also playing an important role in community development. They have organized youth engagement programs, provided scholarships for higher education to needy students and have done humanitarian efforts like health camps and blood donation camps. From distributing relief material and helping the needy to shaping the future of children, this unit is constantly working towards positive change.
