Assam: On Friday afternoon, a loud and banging noise suddenly frightened people in Assam’s Golaghat district. The sound was so loud that people of Merapani, Sarupathar and surrounding areas came out of their houses. This incident happened around 3:35 pm when this noise coming from the sky echoed in the entire area. People first thought that maybe there was an explosion or a major accident, but immediately the district administration and police took control of the situation and started investigating.
Sonic boom suspected, sound came out at high speed
Initial investigation by the administration has revealed that this sound may have been caused by a “sonic boom”. Sonic boom occurs when an object moves faster than the speed of sound in the air and a strong sound wave is produced. Often this incident occurs when a supersonic aircraft, that is, an aircraft flying faster than sound, flies in the sky. The district administration issued a statement on its official Facebook page and informed that such an intense sound wave may possibly have been caused by a high-speed aircraft.
Administration alert, appeal to people to maintain peace
Golaghat administration and police immediately reached the area and started investigation. At present, there is no news of any kind of loss or accident. The administration has clarified that there is no need for people to panic and a thorough investigation is being done to find out what caused this sound. According to experts, this can be a completely scientific phenomenon in which there is no danger. Despite this, the administration is being very cautious and investigating all possibilities.

Officials have said that as the investigation progresses, more information will be revealed. At present, there has been no official statement from the Army or Air Force to confirm whether a supersonic flight had passed through this area or not. But given the intensity and echo of the sound, this is being considered the most likely reason.
