After the Pahalgam attack, the whole world is watching the growing tension between India and Pakistan. Fearing India, Pakistan knocked on the door of the United Nations. Pakistan appealed to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to call an emergency meeting, which was accepted. Today there will be an important meeting between India and Pakistan in the UNSC on this issue.
The meeting will be held in a closed room
Pakistan is one of the 10 temporary members of the UNSC. In this situation, Pakistan had recommended this meeting regarding the increasing tension between India and Pakistan. This meeting, chaired by Greece, has been scheduled today i.e. on 5 May afternoon. This meeting will discuss the tension between the two countries and this meeting will be held in a completely closed room, so that confidentiality is maintained on sensitive matters.

Who are the temporary members of UNSC?
The United Nations Security Council has five permanent members – Russia, America, China, France and Britain. Apart from this, there are also 10 temporary members whose tenure is only 2 years. Currently, the temporary member countries of the United Nations include Algeria, Denmark, Greece, Guyana, Pakistan, Panama, South Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia and Somalia. The tenure of these countries is for two years and these members participate in the work of the United Nations Security Council.
Statement by the Greek Ambassador
Greece’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Evangelos Sekeris, has given a statement on the growing tension between India and Pakistan. He said, “We strongly condemn terrorism in any country, but we are also concerned about the growing tension between the two countries.” This statement of Greece shows that the international community is serious and concerned about maintaining peace between India and Pakistan.
Appeal to the United Nations on behalf of Pakistan
Let us tell you that a week ago, India had warned the United Nations that after playing the dirty game of terrorism, Pakistan indulges in false propaganda on international forums and is busy proving itself innocent. Despite this, Pakistan had appealed to the United Nations to call an emergency meeting on this issue. Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar had said that the United Nations can call a meeting on this issue whenever it deems appropriate.
