After the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, Assam Police has started strict action against those making anti-national and pro-Pakistan comments. So far 19 people have been arrested for posting objectionable posts on social media. These include students, politicians, leaders and a woman. All of them have been booked for taking Pakistan’s side and spreading anti-national sentiments.
Many people including AIUDF MLA arrested
This action of Assam Police started on April 25 when AIUDF’s Dhing area MLA Aminul Islam was arrested. He had made serious allegations on social media against the central government of being involved in terrorist attacks. On April 26, he was sent to four-day police custody. After this, other arrests were also made from many districts of Assam, including names like Narmal Haque of Goalpara, Sheikh Saroj of Baksa, Ferazul Islam of Dhubri, Zarif Ali of Barpeta, Imran Hussain alias Komaruddin of Cachar.

Students and Congress leaders also in trouble
The police took action and arrested Congress leader Bimal Mahato from Udalguri. Apart from this, AK Bahauddin, a student of Computer Science Department of Assam University Silchar, has also been detained. The arrested people include many names like Dadhichi Dimple alias Dimple Bora of Golaghat, Mashood Azhar of Nagaon, Mustak Ahmed alias Sahel of Karimganj, and Mahahar Mia alias Mujihirul Islam of Morigaon. All have been charged with spreading pro-Pakistan and anti-India statements through social media.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma gave a strict warning
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken a tough stand on this issue and warned that anti-India activities will not be tolerated at any cost in Assam. He said that if any person supports Pakistan directly or indirectly, strict action will be taken against him. The Assam Government and Police Department are keeping an eye on every such activity and taking strict action without any leniency to maintain the unity and integrity of the country.
