Assam’s vibrant electronic music scene has now made its mark at the national level. Aditya Upadhyay from Guwahati, Dibyajit Rai from Bongaigaon and Nobjyoti Boruah from Lakhimpur have made it to the top 10 finalists in ‘Resonate: The EDM Challenge’. The competition is an important part of the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 organised under the ‘Create in India’ initiative. The event aims to bring forth emerging talent from India and around the world.

Assamese artists to perform live at WAVES Summit

The competition, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Indian Music Industry (IMI), saw talents selected from across the country. The top 10 finalists were announced on April 12. The selection process was led by leading music industry experts from the country. Now these three Assamese artists will perform live at the WAVES Summit to be held in Mumbai from May 1 to 4. Their presence will be a great representation of the diversity and creativity of the Northeast region of India.

Inspiring story of Nobjyoti Boruah

Among the top finalists, Nobjyoti Boruah’s journey has been very special. He started music production inspired by the growing influence of electronic music. He learned from YouTube and then did a course in professional audio engineering. Nobjyoti has worked on many projects in Chennai and Bangalore. He draws inspiration from Indian musicians like AR Rahman, Amit Trivedi and Anurag Saikia as well as international artists like Skrillex and Zed. One of his special projects is the official remix of Salim-Sulaiman’s song ‘Ek Martaba’, which was released through Merchant Records and Warner Music India.

Finalist Aditya Upadhyay also expressed happiness over this achievement. He said that a platform like WAVES is a great opportunity for the EDM community as this community is growing in India right now. Aditya said that making it to the top 10 will prove to be a big turning point in his career. ‘Resonate: The EDM Challenge’ was aimed at bringing forth emerging electronic music producers and DJs from India and the world. Through the WAVES Summit, India is strengthening its position as a global hub for music fusion and electronic music.
