Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed about these arrests on Saturday. He said that the Cachar Police has caught them while taking action in the case of posting in support of Pakistan on social media. The names of the arrested accused are Baktar Hussain Borbhuia and Mohammad Imran Hussain Borbhuia. Both of them are residents of Sonai and Silchar police station areas respectively.

Arrests have been made earlier and strict warning from the government

Chief Minister Sarma informed on Twitter that the Cachar Police has arrested two more people on Friday night for posting pro-Pakistan posts. He said that even before this a youth was arrested from Hajo town who was posting anti-national posts on social media. Sarma clearly said that the state government is keeping an eye on social media and strict action will be taken against anyone who posts anti-national content. He also warned that those who directly or indirectly support Pakistan will be booked under the National Security Act (NSA).

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a conversation with the media that a youth from Hajo has also been arrested on Saturday morning. The government is conducting a thorough investigation of social media posts and NSA will be imposed against anyone found supporting Pakistan. He said that we will not allow anyone to do anti-national activities and whoever does such an act will be given strict punishment. Sarma made this statement during the release of the election manifesto of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The upcoming panchayat elections in the state are to be held in two phases on May 2 and 7, while the counting of votes will be done on May 11.
