Arrest of MLA in Assam grabs headlines
One such case has come to light from Assam where AIUDF party MLA Aminul Islam has been arrested for supporting Pakistan and making inflammatory statements about the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Assam Police DGP Harmeet Singh said that the MLA’s statement could have spoiled the atmosphere and it was becoming increasingly viral on social media. Taking it seriously, the police registered a case at Nagaon police station and arrested him. Police say that this statement of the MLA could have disrupted the peace and there was a danger of provoking the public. Due to this, he was arrested on Thursday on charges of treason.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma gave a stern warning
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has taken a tough stand on this matter. He has clearly said that strict action will be taken against anyone who supports Pakistan directly or indirectly. The Chief Minister said that MLA Aminul Islam made such a statement that the people of Assam have become angry. He himself saw a video on social media in which Pakistan was spoken in favor. The Chief Minister said that he had immediately instructed the police to take strict action and now a treason case has been registered against that MLA. He warned that there is no place for supporting Pakistan in Assam and any such attempt will not be tolerated.
Announcement of Rs 5 lakh help to Pahalgam victims
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has also taken a big decision for the victims of the Pahalgam attack. He announced that the Assam government will give an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those killed in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that Assam has also seen a period of violence and bloodshed, so we understand this pain very well. He said that the people of Assam stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in this hour of grief. This step will act as a relief for the families whose loved ones have been killed in this attack.
