Big action on drug smuggling in Assam, Mankachar police arrested 3 smugglers

Intensifying its crackdown against drug trafficking, police in Assam’s South Salmara-Mankachar district arrested three smugglers on Sunday night. Yaba tablets and suspected heroin have been recovered in these arrests. Police caught these smugglers during separate operations and seized narcotics from their possession. According to the police, these arrests are a major crackdown on the growing problem of drug trafficking in the Mankachar area.

Two smugglers arrested in the first action

In the first action, the police arrested two persons—Ahmed Hussain (35) and Idrish Ali (18)—residents of Chomrashali village at Mirjumla checkpoint under Mankachar police station. The police had received intelligence that these two persons were going to smuggle Yaba tablets. The police stopped their bike and upon searching, five packets of Yaba tablets weighing 123 grams were found. Police also recovered a bike, two mobile handsets and cash worth Rs 3,220 from them.

One arrested with heroin in second operation

In the second operation, police arrested 22-year-old Rabibul Islam during naka checking in Mirkamari. 12 grams of suspected heroin was recovered from him. Police said that they had received intelligence that heroin was being smuggled from Kukarmara towards Mankachar. Based on this, the police started checking by setting up a naka. During the checking, heroin was found in a soap box. However, another accused Saif Hussain escaped from the spot in this operation.

Further action and police plan

Police seized the narcotics and related material recovered in both these operations under due procedure. An FIR has been registered against all the accused and investigation is underway. Mankachar police station officer Deepak Bargayari said that a major operation against drugs is going on in South Salmara-Mankachar district, in which several smugglers have been arrested and a large amount of narcotics has been seized in recent days.

The police officer also said that strict vigil is being kept on the growing problem of drug trafficking in the area and such actions will continue in the future. Through this campaign, the police want to ensure that the area can be freed from drug smugglers and people can be saved from the threat of drugs.
